Encapsulation (Waste Treatment)

4 related

A physical waste treatment process that coats or surrounds hazardous materials to prevent release of contaminants, achieved through solidification or application of protective barriers. Forms part of the solidification/stabilisation (S/S) approach by creating an impermeable barrier around contaminants. Used for asbestos, contaminated soils, and other hazardous wastes to enable safe disposal or reuse. Effectiveness depends on maintaining barrier integrity throughout waste lifetime.
